Had myself a Ferris Wheel ride today

I had business in Detroit Lakes today, like returning the clock that didn’t work to Wal-Mart.  There was someone at the jewelry stand today, so I had them take a couple of links out of the band of the wristwatch I bought last week.  Then I got a haircut from a ‘not so nice’ young Minnesotan lady.  Tried to buy a new tie out for Emma before she breaks the one she is on and heads for the hills.  No luck.  It’s on order.  Yeah, right.  I just don’t like shopping at Wal-Mart.  Anyway, then it was on to Fargo, ND, to pick up an order I had made.  Steve, the other volunteer, had told me about an interesting store in Fargo, so I found my way there.  It’s name is Scheels, and is something like a Cabellas.  It’s a sporting goods store, and I wanted to buy one of those new fangled pair of pants where you can zip off the bottoms of the legs and end up with a pair of shorts.  Lots of people wear them, so I thought I’d give a pair a try i...

Here we go again

Remember last night when I mentioned I was a little nervous about the ice maker in the fridge?  Well, my worst fears came true last night.  Not only was the fridge not making ice, but the temps were creeping upwards.  Along about 10:00 pm, I emptied most of the food from the freezer that I had been stockpiling for my journey and took them up to the bunkhouse freezer section of that refrigerator.  I’m sure glad I did.  By this morning the freezer was at 50* and the fridge part was at 70*. I’ll be doing battle with Samsung once again.  It is almost two years ago that the same thing happened to me while I was traveling.  At least this time, I’m at a place where I could move my freezer contents to a safe place.  I called Samsung this morning, and they are supposedly finding someone to repair it.  Of course it will take up to 2 days for them to get a hold of me to set up an appointment.  If I receive no contact, I’m to call Samsung back....

Winter Reads

I hear there's a nasty ice/snow system criss-crossing North America. While winter is melting away here in Shenyang I thought I'd give you an update on all those books I've been reading in case you're hunkered down for the weekend. Where'd You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple If you need to laugh out loud (as I did four weeks ago sick in the dead of winter) please read this book. I'm pretty sure it is an all-time favorite for me. Maria Semple was a writer on the popular tv show Arrested Development, but in this new novel writes of a typically dysfunctional family in Seattle. She pokes fun at helicopter parents, Seattleites, and microsoft, all while discussing creative genius, keeping you laughing out loud and engaged to the end. It's hard to put into words how great this book is so quit reading my review and just go read it.
