Today, traditional craft villages are a destination of choice for tourists. In addition to their discovery and purchase of their products, they have indeed the opportunity to meet their craftsmen, and even to learn their techniques.

In recent years, the Bat Trang ceramic village, Van Phuc silk, lacquer Thai Ha... have become iconic sites.

According to Tran Xuan Viet, Vice President of Hanoi People's Committee, the development of these villages and their tourism can promote their economic development, and thus improve the living conditions of their inhabitants as to enhance local traditions.

However, their infrastructure does not meet the standards required for the development of Vietnam tourism , as regards, for example, access roads and sanitation. In addition, the release of these villages pollute the water, air and soil of their surroundings that are densely populated. Although most of the villages are small, manufacturing technologies, completely overwhelmed, cause serious pollution.

Faced with this situation, Hanoi strives to develop six of these villages during the 2012-2015 period by investing 126 billion VND. The beneficiaries are the villages of Phu Vinh handicrafts (Chuong My District) and Son Dong (Hoai Duc District), Bat Trang ceramics - Kim Lan (Gia Lam district), Van Phuc silk ( Ha Dong district), and sculpture Du Du (Thanh Oai district).

Similarly, training of staff and promotion of tourism will be made during this period.
